Aquatics Courses

Basic Water Rescue - A 4 hour course to provide individuals such as public safety personnel, aquatic fitness instructors, and aquatic therapists with information and skills necessary to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies.  This course will also prepare individuals for aquatic emergencies by teaching them how to protect themselves while assisting others.

 

Water Safety Instructor - A 30 hour course that trains instructor candidates to teach water safety, including the Basic Water Rescue course, six levels of the Learn to Swim and Parent and Child Aquatics. 

 

Water Safety Aide - A 12 hour course to train individuals who wish to assist Water Safety Instructors in conducting American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety courses, particularly lifeguards who do not meet the minimum age requirements for the Water Safety Instructor course but would like to further their water safety training.

 

Learn-to-Swim Levels 1-6 - The participant is required to successfully complete all required skills for each level to move on to the next level.  The levels include Introduction to Water Skills, Fundamental Aquatic Skills, Stroke Development, Stroke Improvement, Stroke Refinement, Fitness Swimmer, Fundamentals of Diving, Lifeguard Readiness, and Personal Water Safety.

 

Lifeguard Training - A class that is approximately 28 ¼ hours intended to teach lifeguard candidates the skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies.  The course content and activities prepare candidates to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies, and prevent drownings and injuries. 

 

Waterfront Lifeguarding - A 5 ½ hour course to teach lifeguards the skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to emergencies at a waterfront facility.      

  

Waterpark Lifeguarding - A 5 hour course to teach lifeguards the skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to emergencies at a waterpark facility.
